SCD & CORONAVIRUS

IN THESE DIFFICULT TIMES OF SOCIAL ISOLATION & DISTANCING,
if any of our members or SCD friends needs any help with shopping etc (or just a friendly phone call), please drop us a message using the Contact page and we'll see what we can do !

-------------------------------------

A large number of SCD Rallies, Dances and Classes across the area have been cancelled (see Dance Diary).

UPDATE : The usual series of Spring Classes in April and May have also been cancelled; the Branch AGM which normally takes place towards the end of May will be rescheduled for later in the year.
Further information will be posted in due course.

We are continuing to plan for events later in the year and appreciate your continued support.
We will try to keep the Dance Diary and News pages up to date as we become aware of changes and hope to see you on a dance floor somewhere before too much longer.

Take care and keep well !

The RSCDS has provided information and links (here) to up to date advice and guidance from the World Health Organisation and NHS.
UPDATE :  The Spring Fling events and RSCDS Summer School have been cancelled, those who have booked will be contacted soon by the organisers.

Good practice for staying healthy

It may seem obvious, but a few precautions can go a long way to stop germs from spreading:

  • Wash your hands prior to and directly after attending a dance class
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • Put used tissues in the bin straight away
  • Wash your hands with soap and water often – use hand sanitiser gel, if soap and water are not available
  • Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell and please do not attend a dance, a class or a committee meeting if you are feeling unwell.

INVERNESS MUSIC FESTIVAL - SCD SECTION - RESULTS

Congratulations to all who took part in the Adult SCD Classes of the Music Festival at the One-Touch Theatre, Eden Court yesterday (2nd March). It was a terrific evening with a high standard of dancing to the wonderful piano accompaniment of Gillian Cummins, supported by an enthusiastic audience.
The adjudicator, Jimmy Hill from Dunfermline, complimented all dancers on a close competition which yielded  the following results:

Ladies Teams (Janice Stevenson Quaich) Mixed Teams
1st - Marybank SCD 1st - RSCDS Inverness & District
2nd - RSCDS Inverness & District 2nd - Marybank SCD
3rd - Fortrose SCD 3rd - Fortrose SCD

Marybank Ladies also won the Jaap Kirchner Trophy for the highest individual score.

At the end of the formalities, many members of the audience joined the competitors on stage for an impromptu performance of the reel 'De'il amang the Tailors' - magical !

Very many thanks to the Festival organisers and Eden Court staff for all their hard work on our behalf.

Sad News

The Branch were saddened to hear of the death of our Hon. President and long term member, Lilian Meiklejohn, on 20th November. Lilian was the teacher of the Branch general class for 23 years and was presented with the Branch Award. She had been ill for some time but was always cheerful and a great support to the Branch.

We were also saddened to hear on 23rd November of the sudden death of Eleanor Stewart, another long term member of our Branch. She taught the beginners class for several years and was a regular attender at our class.

Their experience, help and encouragement was always appreciated and they will both be missed.

News from Mini-Crib

The MiniCrib Team have been busy over the last 4 or 5 weeks and have added over 70 new cribs to the MiniCrib database, bringing the total number of cribs to over 5,600.  The August edition of MiniCrib is available to download from the website (http://www.minicrib.org.uk/downloads.html).

A quick look at our "To Do List" shows that we have scheduled another 150+ dances which require cribs.  That will take some time!  We hope to have some of them written for inclusion in the September update to MiniCrib.
Keep well, keep safe
